Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?
Mindy Kaling’s first memoir is rife with hilarious tales from her childhood in Boston as a self-proclaimed “chubster”; her post-collegiate life in New York, where she and her best friend created and performed an off-broadway play about Matt Damon and Ben Affleck; and her life starting out in Los Angeles as a writer on The Office. Through it all, Mindy’s self-confidence and unique sense of humor shine through.
Just Kids is Patti Smith’s love letter to her life with Robert Mapplethorpe. From casually running into Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix at their neighborhood bar, to dancing barefoot in their apartment in the Chelsea Hotel to The Rolling Stones, Just Kids paints a hauntingly beautiful picture of New York City in the 60s and 70s.
Tales of the City
The first of six novels by Armistead Maupin, Tales of the City focuses on the lives of the tenants of 28 Barbary Lane in San Francisco. The central protagonist comes straight from Cleveland, Ohio and is immersed in a wonderfully weird world of characters as she navigates her new life in San Francisco.
Pattie Boyd has lived a life like no other, having inspired some of the most iconic songs from two of rock’s most influential musicians. Starting out as a model in 1960s London, she met George Harrison on the set of A Hard Day’s Night; he asked her to marry him 10 days later. In Wonderful Tonight, she recounts her marriage to Harrison, their subsequent break up, and her whirlwind romance with Eric Clapton.
