#ScribdChats Presents Chuck Palahniuk
It should come as no surprise that we at Scribd are huge fans of Chuck Palahniuk. When we found out that the highly anticipated sequel to his bestselling novel Fight Club was coming out—and as a comic book, no less—we were pretty thrilled. So when Palahniuk came through San Francisco on a tour promoting the graphic novel, we asked him to stop by Scribd’s offices and talk to us a bit about Fight Club 2.
With characteristic wit and charisma, Palahniuk described everything from his process as an author to the movie studio’s initial reaction to David Fincher’s celebrated movie adaptation of Fight Club (spoiler: not positive). Along the way he contextualized Fight Club and its sequel within the traditions and tropes of American literature—especially The Great Gatsby—and described how he began the process of revisiting his best-known characters later in their lives, and in a new medium. It was a fascinating talk, and a day no one in the office is likely to forget anytime soon.

Palahniuk was kind enough to let us film his visit, so we put together a short video with some highlights from the discussion. So enjoy the video, and come see us again soon—we had so much fun talking with Palahniuk that we’re expanding our office chats to include many more authors. Check us out on Twitter to follow along as we live tweet our #ScribdChats, and check back here for future videos, interviews, and posts featuring discussions with some of our favorite authors.
